Get a Little Dirty

Get a Little Dirty

I love this time of year.

I grew up in a rural farming community and watching the plants sprout through the ground in perfect rows brings a smile to my face even today. This week I will be doing my own summer planting, attempting to make the same perfect rows. I love the feel of the warm earth in your hands, smiling as I put the plant into the ground and thinking of the growth that is about to happen. As I wash the dirt off my hands, I think that my work is not done. In order to be successful, the plants need to be watered, pruned and cared for. A lot like relationships.

Relationships take time, patience and forgiveness. You must put in the work to make it successful. I read the following the other day and thought it was pertinent to share, “The problem with life is that it must be lived forward and only understood backward.” How many times do we try to undo the past or dwell on a mistake? Sometimes we need to get a little dirty by putting the needs/wants of others before our own. Make the bed, do the dishes, put your shoes away, say “I love you” first and be grateful for what you have.

It may be awkward at first, but seeing those perfect rows line up will make it all worth it when a relationship begins to blossom. Go out there and get dirty, and may you continue to Flourish!
