Grandparents Day 2020 Might Be The Most Significant Grandparents Day Ever.

Grandparents Day is celebrated each year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. And yes, we hope you'll consider a gift from QBaskets to honor your favorite seniors. But before you think gift companies invented it, read on.

Contrary to what you might think, Grandparent's Day was not started by greeting card and gift companies. And, you probably didn't know this, but Grandparents Day has been an official "day" for nearly 50 years, but the roots can be traced back to the 1950s. It was started in West Virginia by Marian McQuade, a mom who wanted to create a celebration for people over 80 years old. When she learned about the many seniors living in nursing homes who were often forgotten by families, she stepped up her efforts. In 1973 West Virginia became the first state to honor grandparents with their own day officially. Five years later, in 1978, Grandparents Day was officially observed as a holiday across the nation.

The purpose of Grandparents Day may be to honor grandparents. But it also serves as a reminder to all generations to acknowledge the strength, wisdom, experiences, and guidance older people can offer.

Given our current health crisis, Grandparents Day 2020 might be the most significant Grandparents Day ever. Older folks have never been more isolated. Not that you should need a reason, but Grandparents Day is a great excuse for you to phone, text, FaceTime, Skype, or send a good ol' letter. Reach out and connect on September 13th. And if you're so inclined, QBaskets has great gift options, too.
